A self-guided trail starting and finishing at Mills Hill Station. It follows recognised paths along the River Irk to the "Great Mills" - Soudan1, Soudan 2 and Rex - before crossing under the railway lone at Scowcroft Farm and returning via the Rochdale Canal towpath in neighbouring Chadderton. You should allow an 1hr or more for a leisurely stroll. The area had a strong sense of identity, a source of local pride and an attraction to visitors. The high railway embankment is a major landmark.
