St Leonard's dates predominantly from 1524, but still retains a tower and porch from Cardinal Langley's church built in 1412, together with traces of a Norman church. It has one of the three remaining wooden church towers in Britain.
An interesting feature is the stained glass window dedicated to the Middleton Archers who fought at the Battle of Flodden Field; this is thought to be the oldest war memorial in existence.
From Middleton town centre follow the A664 Long Street towards Rochdale. New Lane is quarter of a mile on the right, immediately after Jubilee Park.
Half a mile from Middleton bus station. Route 17, Manchester to Rochdale, stops at the bottom of New Lane near Ye Olde Boar's Head pub. Nearest rail station is Mills Hill with bus connections to Middleton bus station.
